Our Story

In 1995, Loads of Love began with one shipment to Ukraine

Since that time, tens of thousands of lives have been impacted — both in Chatham-Kent and around the world. Together, we share Christ’s love by offering practical help, dignity, and hope.

Our Mission

Caring for the needy through Christ-like love and compassion.

We will live out our Mission Statement in the following ways:

  • We will seek to be Christ-like by following His example by touching those we meet with love and compassion.
  • We will reach out to the needy with Jesus' love within our community, country and the world.
  • We will recruit and enable caring people to meet the needs of individuals in practical ways.

Celebrating Our History

The story of God's faithfulness as the people of Chatham-Kent responded to needs both at home and abroad.

A Small Start, A Big Vision (March 1995)

In March 1995, Loads of Love took root in the parking lot of Evangel Church. With two trailers borrowed from Transit Trailer — one for equipment, the other for donations — volunteers showed up day after day to sort, pack, and label boxes destined for Dnepropetrovsk, Ukraine. Every Saturday, the community came to drop off their goods, fueling a wave of generosity that would keep moving forward.

The First Container Sent (September 1995)

By September 10, 1995, the first container was packed, prayed over, and sent on its way — marking the humble yet powerful beginning of Loads of Love’s mission.

Finding Space to Grow (Winter 1995–1996)

As the seasons changed, the project moved indoors to Pinwood Truck Parts. The generosity of partners and donors continued to multiply, making it possible to load and ship even more containers from this space.

Building Partnerships in Ukraine (July 1996)

In July 1996, a mission team led by Pastor Pitts visited Ukraine, encouraging local churches and Bible College students while forging relationships that would last for decades. Aaron Pilon remained in Ukraine to study, while driver Dmitri Brovka helped guide the team across the country.

Local Connections & Global Reach (Fall 1996–1997)

By the fall, Loads of Love relocated to the basement of the Libby’s plant thanks to Reg DeNure’s support. It was a bare-bones facility — no heat and no washrooms — but the mission carried on with even greater impact. There, Loads of Love started partnering with the United Way, began working with local agencies and churches, and shipped containers to Cuba and beyond.

Establishing a Lasting Presence (Summer 1998)

Summer 1998 saw further growth as Loads of Love returned to Ukraine, helping orphans in Dnepropetrovsk through Ed Dickson’s connections at “The Place That God Forgot,” and supporting seniors and families in Korosten. It was during these visits that Loads of Love’s ministry in Ukraine officially took root under the leadership of Larisa and Dmitri Brovka.

Creating a Long-Term Home (2000's and Beyond)

In time, the ministry moved again — this time to renovated space at DeNure Bus Lines — creating a more welcoming and efficient hub for sorting, packing, and serving. That home served Loads of Love until the organization moved to its current facility on Prince Street, where its impact continues to grow today.

From a simple act of kindness in a church parking lot to a mission reaching across the globe, Loads of Love is still living out its calling: caring for the needy through Christ-like love and compassion.

Statement of Faith

We believe in God the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth.

We believe in Jesus Christ, His only Son our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried. He descended into hell: the third day He rose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven, and sits on the right hand of God the Father Almighty and from heaven, He shall come to judge the quick and the dead. We believe in the Holy Spirit; the holy catholic church; the communion of saints; the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection of the body, and life everlasting.

Amen
