I'll be showing lots of pictures of our little Amy ... And
talking a bit about missions too :)
Afghanistan's Past
We know all about Afghanistan's past. But what is the present
really like? And what about the future? And what role could YOU
possibly play in the future of Afghanistan?
I believe that we are on the verge of a promising new stage
in the country's development. Come along with me now, for a little
trip into the heart of Afghanistan.
Here, our friend, George Land, has boarded the bus that will
take us to the river crossing. Wow, George doesn't seem to be
afraid at all!
You ask, "Hey George! Is there going to be a movie on
this bus?"
"Yeah, right through the front window!"
Afghanistan's Present
Now we arrive at an old school. Just look at the kids!
We are working closely with a mission that is building new
schools for the kids. Now, imagine what it means, personally,
to EACH of these kids that we are helping them.
You know what's great about this group? The girls. You've
got to have pretty good eyes to pick 'em out! But they are there!
Just four years ago, girls did not go to school in Afghanistan.
Imagine Just think of what THAT means to each of these girls.
Change is coming bit by bit ... and most of the change is very
good.
Afghanistan's Future
Now, here's the BIG story. The young man smiling, between
Pastor Ron Hughes and I, represents the GREAT hope for the future
of Afghanistan.
You can't see him? Well, you'll have to come over sometime
and meet him! For security reasons I had to hide him and I will
call him "Ali" (not his real name).
So what's the BIG deal with this guy?
Ali started to work for the mission over a year ago for a
very reasonable monthly salary. Ali watched as the men and women
he worked with helped the poor and built new schools for the
kids in his country.
Of course, Ali became acquainted with the Good News and began
to pray together with the missionaries he was working with. Now
he has been filled with new life and new hope.
Not too long ago, Ali heard that the mission did not have
enough money to finish one of the schools. To the surprise of
everyone in the mission, Ali showed up the next morning with
his entire salary (he had been saving it from the first day he
started working) and he gave ALL of it back to the mission, because
he did not want the progress to stop!
Wow, I'm so thankful for GENUINE Christians, REAL Christians
... ready to give ALL for the cause!
NOW ... this get's even better. Ali wants to travel to Tajikistan
and study in the bible training institute and return to Afghanistan
as a missionary! Just IMAGINE what this young man (with HIS heart)
will do for his country's future! There are 12 (imagine THAT!)
young people from Afghanistan who are ready to come to the training
institute and study. It costs US$600 for them to study for one
year. We have already committed to sponsoring Ali. Can we do
more? Can you help the future of Afghanistan? Yes you can!
With love IN Jesus' mighty name,
Ed Dickson
